higher education, is seeking a Human Resources Generalist. The University enrolls more than 3,700 students with its main campus located in
Houston's Museum District.
The Human Resources Generalist will report directly to the Director of Human Resources. The essential duties and responsibilities are, to interview and assist in the recruiting and hiring process, respond to employee HR related questions including employee benefits, and serve as a key contact on employee relations issues and matters. The Human Resources Generalist will research employee relations issues including meetings with employees and supervisors and ensure compliance with various regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, FLSA, EEOC, DOL, ADA, Texas Payday Laws, Worker's Compensation, FMLA, and USERRA. The Generalist will coordinate or assist in various HR initiatives assigned and complete other duties that are assigned that are not listed here.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough understanding of state and federal employment and workplace laws and regulations and a thorough understanding of human resources policy concepts and applications. The candidate must demonstrate abilities to effectively handle multiple tasks and proficient organization skills and have effective customer service skills. The candidate must have work history experience in compiling and analyzing analytical data and demonstrate effective presentation skills and be comfortable facilitating group sessions. The candidate must be an effective listener and demonstrate effective communication skills and be proficient in working with numbers with a strong attention to detail.
The successful candidate should have a minimum of 5 years full-time experience in a Human Resources Generalist or HR Business Partner role with an emphasis on employee relations, employment related activities and base compensation. A more than basic level of employee benefits knowledge is preferred. The candidate should have a minimum of 2 years experience managing Worker's Compensation and Unemployment Insurance claims and experience managing and maintaining company-wide human resources policies and procedures. The candidate should have intermediate level or above personal computing skills including Microsoft Office and Adobe and a proficient level of familiarity with People Soft HRIS applications is preferred. In addition to speaking and writing English properly and well, the position requires the abilities to fluently speak and write in Spanish.
